Our Sustainability

Our Pledge to our Planet

Our planet needs our help and it is the responsibility of food producers everywhere to have an all-encompassing approach to environmental management. From the sustainable sourcing of ingredients to the intelligent use of energy and resources, our focus at Tayto Snacks will continue to be on minimising our environmental footprint.

Our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals

2015 saw the welcome adoption of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the United Nations. Guided by our values and our commitment to a sustainable world, we recognise our responsibility to help create a better world through adapting what we do and how we do it. To this end, we have committed ourselves to implementing four SDGs across our business.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
We promote safe and secure working environments for all workers. We also implement measures along our supply chain to prevent forced labour and child labour.

SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
We strive to make efficient use of natural resources and to reduce waste along our entire supply chain

SDG 13: Climate action
We are working along our value chain to increase energy efficiency and develop a closed cycle for packaging material. We also promote responsible agricultural practices.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals
We are engaged in multi-stakeholder partnerships with public, private and civil society. Together, we mobilise and share knowledge, expertise and technology.

In Sync with Suppliers

Close collaboration with our supplier network ensures we can share knowledge and work toward sustainable potato growing together. Right now, Tayto Snacks buys 10% of the Irish potato crop and we are continuously improving the growing practices of our suppliers. We are members of NIAB, a pioneering plant-science organisation based in Cambridge University, and promote this resource to suppliers, sharing insights across several key areas.

Optimising Electricity Usage

Energy usage and how electricity is managed is a core element of environmental strategy for all organisations. At Tayto Snacks, 70% of electricity demand in production is delivered from within, while all of our electricity sourced from the grid is from 100% renewable sources. Our electric vehicle fleet continues to grow and the installation of charging points on-site ensures convenient solutions for all as we work together to further reduce our CO2 emissions.

Environmental Excellence Prioritised

For manufacturers like ourselves, real commitment to reducing our impact on the environment is demonstrated through a range of initiatives that run in tandem. In recent years we have upgraded our wastewater treatment plant allowing us to provide all the water required to operate our factory. We have LED lighting plant-wide. Alongside our new Energy Management System MESSDAS and other key initiatives, our commitment to promoting environmental excellence across our organisation is clear.

Environmental Certifications and Membership

Industry certification and affiliations with forward-thinking groups across the world is an important pillar of our environmental strategy. We are members of Repak, Ireland’s environmental not-for-profit organisation and we do not send any waste to landfill. Our suppliers are GAP certified while ISO are globally recognised environmental standards – we have successfully achieved ISO certifications including ISO4500, ISO14001, and ISO5000.
